Strategically planned from the off, the hotel was built on Broadway, an upper class residential area at the time, just one block from Union Railway Station.

The hotel is one of the finest examples of chateau style architecture to be found in North America, and bears a striking similarity to one of its famous predecessors, the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

The Fort Garry retains to this day many of its charming original features, like the original brass mailbox, still located in the lobby, and the letter chutes on each floor, which guests used to be able to drop their letters into.

In fact, when those same letter chutes were cleaned a few years ago, it was found that a number of letters had been stuck in the chutes for decades!

There’s something for everyone at the Delta, whether travelling on business (ok, maybe not Fido, because he wouldn’t appreciate the high speed internet connectivity available in every room), or just taking in the sights, sounds, sports and events Winnipeg has to offer.

The sheer variety in the types of rooms offered means that whether attending a conference, wine tasting, lecture, or any of the other countless functions held year-round at the neighbouring Winnipeg Convention Centre, or doing the rounds of the hundreds of shops, boutiques and galleries of downtown Winnipeg, the one certainty Delta guests can count on is that, when they put their heads down at night, it will be in a beautiful, clean, secure and friendly establishment.

About the Delta Chain of Hotels:

Delta Hotels and Resorts was established in 1962, with a single 62-room hotel in Richmond, British Columbia, but they almost immediately embarked on an aggressive expansion plan. Today, they boast 46 separate facilities, including the largest hotel in Canada, the massive 1,590-room Chelsea Delta in downtown Toronto.

What Makes the Delta Special?

First class facilities, a full range of family-friendly dining options and an unrivalled location are all well and good, and the Winnipeg Delta has all these in abundance, but success in the hotel industry ultimately comes down to service, and good service invariably results when hotel staff are happy in their work. Delta Hotels take pride in being recognized among “The Best 50 Employers in Canada” by Report on Business magazine, nearly every year since the turn of the century. Employees are instilled with the Delta values of honesty, integrity, teamwork and empowerment from day one. As a result, Delta has the lowest average rate of employee turnover in the Canadian hotel industry.

Customer loyalty is also valued at the Delta, and their appreciation is not just shown with ‘thank you’ letters and complimentary bottles of mineral water for return visitors. Delta Privilege members are guaranteed to be checked in within one minute of arriving at the hotel. If that amazing feat doesn’t happen, the first night of the stay is free. This “One Minute Check-In Guarantee” has been a feature of Delta policy since its inception in 1989.

Hotel Dining: What’s Your Pleasure?

The Blaze Bistro is Delta’s way of adding what they like to call “prairie warmth” to guests’ buffet breakfasts, special lunches or high class evening meals. Casual enough for the whole family, yet classy enough to entertain important clients, Blaze offers superb dining and an extensive wine list. Then there’s the Elephant and Castle Pub and Restaurant, open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Styled on the traditional English pub, the menu features traditional British cuisine and a host of varied menus. Finally, the Urban Bean is for people on the go.

It’s a combination takeaway coffee shop, deli, gift shop and computer kiosk, all rolled into one. Of course, if you’d rather just stay tucked up in bed, Delta offer 24-hour rooms service, including breakfast starting at 6 a.m., and a full dinner right up to 11 p.m. After that, there’s a late-night menu running right through to 6 a.m. again.
